BECOMING JOEL was a practice research project completed for 6200 in the Autumn Semester 2015 at the Ohio State University ACCAD for the DAIM program. My focus, at the time, was to see how people would react to a 3D modeled Joel after always seeing him as physical being. I reached out to a small group of friends and aquaintences to get a feel for the audience's appeal for Joel. I decided to use a narrative to report the results because there was interest in seeing him in action.

In the end, I think it helped to look at the long body of work over the years and address what type of approach to take in the coming semesters. |

Special Techniques |
When working with Joel Voyeur using special techniques becomes a requirement in order to sustain believability as opposed to enhancing the piece. When building this idea I needed to decide where Joel was going to be and where Dreama was going to be an dhow I would have both of them interacting. In the end I used cutting shots to convey to the audience that Joel was in his room in the basement and Dreama was in her room upstairs (or is the viewer does not know where they reside, they would at least realize they were in different rooms). I also used audio enhancements to help with the voice and the phone conversation. In the background, I needed to blur out a picture left in the scene. |
